Highlights of the Holocaust Memorial Day 2012 hosted by Amnesty Int. and Unite against Fascism
Green Borders sent its reporter to the Holocaust Memorial Day, hosted and chaired by Amnesty International Waltham Forest and Unite against Fascism Waltham Forest on Sunday 29th January 2012. The afternoon consisted of reflection and discussion, remembering the victims of the holocaust, and discussing how to ensure it never happens again. The event was well attended, and ended with music provided by Pjotr Jordan and Dunajska Kapelye.
You can view video clips on this page from Marla Tribich, Holocaust survivor; Jean Lambert MEP; Weyman Bennett, Joint Secretary of Unite Against Fascism and music provided by Pjotr Jordan and Dunajska Kapelye. Also Ladislav Balaz, a leading Roma activist, spoke. He was a Romany human rights leader in the Czech Republic when death threats forced him and his family to seek asylum in Britain. He works tirelessly for Roma refugees here and started the Europe-Roma organisation. In his efforts to fight racism on behalf of others, he has himself been the target of Nazi attacks. Back in the UK he is still fighting racism. For more information about Europe-Roma, email Amanda Sebestyen: amseb@blueyonder.co.uk
